Just a brief update for you on the Green Homes Grant that the Government announced in their summer statement and that we wrote about in our blog on the 10th July.

We are still waiting the finer details which no doubt will be published closer to the start date, but we understand applications for the grants will open in late September. They are open to private landlords as well as owner occupiers in England. The scheme will run until March 2021 with the Government providing vouchers for funding for two thirds of the costs for energy improvements, up to a maximum of £5,000 for landlords.

It would appear that it will be a two step system. In order to qualify for funding to replace or install double glazing, energy efficient doors (only if replacing doors installed before 2002), draught proofing or heating controls such as thermostats, you will need to have carried out one of the improvements in the first category which would include insulation, or some form of low carbon heating e.g air source pump.

Works will need to be carried out by firms approved by the scheme.

We’ll post more as the details unfold.
