Breaking News! Notice Periods Extended

28/08/2020

The Government have this afternoon announced that notice periods for Section 21 and Section 8's served from tomorrow will need to be for six months.

In a positive move for landlords facing rent arrears, where a tenant has amassed rent arrears of more than six months then the landlord will only need to give four weeks notice. In the instances of domestic abuse or anti-social behaviour then notice of between two to four weeks will need to be given.

The "shelf life" of a Section 21 notice has been increased from six months to ten months meaning that a Landlord will have four months after the expiry of the notice to make a possesion claim should the tenant not vacate.

The Courts remain closed until the 20th September.

More details to follow once we have had a chance to review the amendment regulations. Enjoy the weekend!
